Discover the inspiration behind our Rattan Starlace Challah Cover—born from a moment of prayer in one of Venezuela’s beautiful synagogues and transformed into a modern, meaningful centerpiece for the High Holidays.
Every Apeloig Collection design begins with meaning. Our Rattan Starlace Challah Cover is more than a beautiful addition to your holiday table—it’s a piece woven with memory, tradition, and modern elegance. Here’s the story behind its creation.
In one of the many beautiful synagogues in our home country of Venezuela, the women’s and men’s sections are divided by a graceful, lace-like metal fence—its pattern a delicate interlacing of Stars of David.
A few years ago, when our grandmother passed away, we found ourselves in the women’s section. Through one of the small, open spaces in that lattice, we saw our father on the other side, praying. The moment framed him perfectly—his face full of faith, connection, and memory. We took a photo, and that image never left us.
The pattern of that fence stayed in our minds, but so did the feeling—the blending of tradition, beauty, and meaning. Over time, we realized that the design echoed an open rattan weave. And since rattan has been resonating in modern interiors, we wondered:
WHAT IF WE BROUGHT THAT TEXTURE INTO OUR COLLECTION IN A WAY THAT FELT FRESH YET DEEPLY TIED TO TRADITION?

We searched for a fabric that could capture the organic warmth of rattan but still feel elevated for the holiday table. That’s when we landed on the perfect combination: a natural beige linen for richness, paired with a sheer mesh that’s airy, delicate, and strong.
To complete it, we added “Shanah Tovah” in Hebrew—a wish for a good year—woven into the design. The result is a challah cover that feels chic and modern, yet deeply personal and intentional.

From a fleeting moment of prayer to the centerpiece of your Rosh Hashanah table—this is the journey of the Rattan Starlace Challah Cover.
